Short
Short Backgammon is a game for two players, played on a board consisting of twenty-four triangles called points. Each player has fifteen checkers. The goal of the game is to move all your checkers in circle into your own home board and then bear them off. The first player to bear off all of his checkers wins the game.
Long
This type is differing from ordinary backgammon in its initial setting, rules, and strategy. Long backgammon is mostly a block game, on a special board divided into two halves (left and right). The player needs to pass with all his checkers a fool circle (counter clockwise) up to the home board and then bear them off before the opponent. The home board for each player is the last quarter of the playing field, which comes after 18 squares from the “head”.
Asian (Armenian)
The difference of this type from the Short Backgammon is that when playing Armenian Backgammon, if the player hits a single checker in the opponent’s home board, he can’t continue his move with the same checker. The goal of the game is to move all your checkers in circle into your own home board and then bear them off.
Nackgammon
This game is similar to Backgammon, but differs in the initial arrangement of checkers and requires more skills. It is a positional game, with more emphasis on priming and back games, and less on attacking and blitzing. The setup is the same as in backgammon except that one checker from each player’s six-point and mid-point are moved to the opponent’s two-point. The players start with four back checkers rather than the usual two.
Pioneer
The simplest version of Backgammon with the board consists of 12 triangles called points. The triangles are grouped into two sectors of six triangles each. The aim of the game is to move the checkers down onto the game board and then bear them off. The first player to bear off all of his checkers wins the game.
Blitz
This is a backgammon strategy that is essentially a series of attacks on your opponent’s checkers. The main objective is to keep at least one of your opponent’s checkers by filling all six of the points in your home board, causing it to be impossible for these checkers to re-enter the game until you bear off and points become available.
Hyper
Playing hyper-backgammon is just like playing regular one, except faster and with fewer pieces. It has to be played on a board consisting of twenty-four triangles called points. The triangles are grouped into four quadrants of six triangles each. Each side starts with just three checkers: one on each of the opponent’s one-point, two-point, and three-point. All you have to do is roll the dice, and move the checkers towards your home board.
